Donations from our supporters are vital to our work; they enable us to carry out the activities that are at the core of our organisation, including project research and development, wildlife surveys, volunteer and staff training, and site maintenance.
So much our work simply wouldn’t be possible with support from the people who live and work in our catchment.
If you love your rivers and the local area you can leave a legacy by leaving a gift for Ribble Rivers Trust in your will. This gift can be used to support a particular project or cause that you are passionate about; from conserving and restoring habitats, to helping farmers take steps transition to greener businesses, to inspiring and supporting children from our catchment’s diverse backgrounds and communities. Leaving a legacy can also reduce the percentage of inheritance tax you pay.
There are three ways that you can leave a gift to the Trust in your will. The first is by leaving a percentage or share of your estate to us. For example, you could leave 5% or a fifth of your total wealth. This is known as a residuary gift and is only taken once any specific gifts have been made to your family of friends. This is a popular way of leaving money as it’s more flexible, and ensures that your provide for your family, friends, and other loved ones first and foremost.
Another option is to leave a specific amount of money. This is also useful way to show your support for the Trust, and again it means that you can ensure that our family, friends, and loved ones are also well provided for. This is called a pecuniary gift.
Finally, you could leave a specific gift, which is an item specified in your will. This could be anything from a collection of fishing gear, to a river themed piece of art, to a piece of land.
Making a will can seem daunting. However, it really is the best way to make sure that your wishes are carried out after you pass away, a thought which can give your family great comfort at a difficult time.
