What is the Trinity EcoHub?

Ribble Rivers Trust are working in partnership with Natural England (NE) and Trinity Methodist Church to create a Green Community EcoHub. Together, we aim to strengthen the community’s connections with nature. But we’re also helping Trinity to work towards achieving A Rocha EcoChurch Awards.

What have we been doing with the Trinity EcoHub?

Over the past two years, we’ve been busy helping to create a vibrant outdoor space! We’ve attended Eco Coffee mornings and hosted numerous activities for people of all ages:

Painted pebbles lie drying on a table. Each pebble has a nature themed painting on it including trees, rivers, fish, and birds.
  • Creative Projects: pebble painting to decorate the garden, featuring colourful designs and inspiring messages.
  • Germinating the next generation: planting acorn seeds in trays which will grow in one of Ribble Rivers Trusts community nurseries
  • Festive Fun: annual wreath-making sessions to celebrate the seasons.
  • Wildlife Habitats: with help from Trinity Echo Coffee mornings, we built “Buggingham Palace,” a habitat for bugs and critters, decorated with our beautiful painted pebbles.
  • Youth Involvement: the Trinity Church youth group planted a variety of ferns in outdoor planting boxes, providing homes for insects and small creatures.
  • Evening Nature Walks: we organized a bat walk, starting with some information at Trinity Church before heading to Primrose Lodge on our search for bats in the evening.

Plus, we’ve also contributed towards new plants for their living wall and outdoor storage! And we’re working on a mini film to showcase everyone’s efforts in bringing the outdoor space to life!

Major Milestones for Trinity Methodist Church

Thanks to these efforts, Trinity was awarded the A Rocha Bronze and Silver Eco Church award in 2024. The award recognises work across five key areas:

  • worship and teaching
  • building and energy
  • land and nature
  • community and global engagement
  • lifestyle

Just a year later, Trinity were awarded the A Rocha Gold Eco Church Award!

The outdoor space continues to be a hub for activities like the Big Garden Birdwatch, wellness talks, and the installation of bat and bird boxes. This amazing effort shows Trinity’s ongoing commitment to caring for our environment.
