Eco-friendly web design company working to boost their environmental credentials
Pearson Web Services, based in Preston, are a company dedicated to offsetting carbon and working in the most environmentally friendly way possible. Having already planted an amazing 600 trees that will offset 18 tons of CO2, Pearson Web Services have also already attended their first tree planting day with Ribble Rivers Trust, further adding to this number.
By teaming up with Ribble Rivers Trust as platinum supporters, Pearson Web Services have committed to helping their local environment and the human and wildlife communities that call the Ribble catchment area their home.
Although often overlooked, web hosting has a significant environmental impact, with the average website producing over 2,000 tons of CO2 each year. Pearson Web Services environmentally friendly mindset means that their clients web services are carbon neutral, or even negative. Plus, Pearson Web Services are carbon negative themselves, funding conservation projects across the world, as well as in their local area.
As a part of the corporate support Pearson Web Services now host the Ribble Rivers Trust website, which now carries the Climate Positive web services logo, showing all the visitors that the site is powered by responsible digital services.
Zoe Hannan, Strategy Director at Pearson Web Services explains.
“When we set up this web services business, we did so with the desire to be environmentally responsible and therefore committed to regularly offsetting the carbon footprint produced by our website and workforce from the outset.
In just 6 months of trading, we have planted almost 600 trees and reduced over 18 tons of CO2 by investing in certified climate projects around the World that remove more greenhouse gasses than our own carbon footprint puts in.
We also offset the entire carbon footprint produced by our client’s web activities too. We believe we are the first company in the UK to do that. We provide a full range of website services including website design, website management, website hosting, marketing, and SEO.
This ethos is driven from our personal desire to do our part in protecting the environment. To give our children an example of how we should all be more environmentally responsible.
We currently invest in climate positive projects around the World, but we wanted to do something local and close to our hearts. Supporting a local effort is hugely important to us both in our personal and professional life and being able to put boots on the ground in an area we are contributing to just makes us feel warm and fuzzy inside. Therefore, we started looking for local projects and when we found the Ribble Rivers Trust we knew it was the right direction for us. We are very passionate about the Forest of Bowland and the River Ribble and will always chose to spend our down time in the area.”
Jack Spees, CEO of the Ribble Rivers Trust adds
“Ribble Rivers Trust are seeing a steady increase in local businesses wanting to improve the local environment and support the local community, whilst tackling climate change. We hope to see more of this in the near future, and hope that others follow Pearson Web Services- we’re proud to have them as a supporter”
Ribble Rivers Trust rely on funding from grants, but whilst grant givers fund most of our activities they don’t fund some of the vital core work that they carry out. Corporate supporters like Pearson Web Services help to ensure that Ribble Rivers Trust have a regular, reliable stream of funding.
Since 1998 Ribble Rivers Trust has relied on supporters such as Pearson Web Services, and they hope more supporters will help them to continue and increase the work they deliver which includes creating new woodlands, restoring peat moorlands, removing river blocking weirs, and delivering national curriculum aligned education sessions to children from a wide and diverse range of backgrounds.
As one of the UK’s largest Rivers Trusts, and one of the area’s leading environmental charities, Ribble Rivers Trust are in a unique position to be able to lead the way into a greener future for everyone. Corporate supporters are helping Ribble Rivers Trust to build on these improvements and ensure the area is more resilient to climate change, flooding, habitat loss, and declining wildlife populations.
