Riverbank Revival in Blackburn with Darwen

At Ribble Rivers Trust, we believe in the transformative power of nature. So, our upcoming project is more than just a crowdfunding campaign; it’s a journey to create a greener, happier, and more connected community! Through our ambitious crowdfunding campaign, we aim to raise between £2,000 and £5,000. These funds will allow us to create vibrant green spaces that not only support local wildlife but also unite communities and rekindle their connection with nature.

The crowdfunding campaign, which is facilitated by the Save Our Wild Isles Community Fund, is one of many projects across the country which aims to support local communities to take action for nature with the help of funds from the RSPB, WWF, and Aviva. Following the success of the BBC’s recent Save Our Wild Isles television series, this fund has been created to take nature depleted spaces and transform them into thriving habitats with the support from local people. Every pound you donate brings us one step closer to our goal. Plus, as an added bonus, the Aviva Community Fund donates £2 towards the project for every £1 in donations.

Why Blackburn with Darwen?

Blackburn with Darwen is a unique community with its share of challenges with high levels of deprivation and limited access to green spaces for many residents. The Riverbank Revival is our way of changing the narrative. By enhancing urban spaces and bringing the beauty of nature closer to home, we aim to improve the lives of everyone in the community.

Our Ambitious Project

Our project revolves around the removal of Himalayan balsam and the introduction of native wildflowers along the River Darwen and its tributaries. To do this we are;

  • Turning urban spaces into thriving ecosystems that benefit both wildlife and people by removing non-native invasive Himalayan balsam plants and sowing the seeds of native wildflowers. In turn, this action will attract pollinators like bees and butterflies, providing essential habitats and food sources.
  • Promoting unity and positivity within our community. By participating in workshops and hands-on activities, residents can connect with nature, enhance their well-being, and create a stronger, more tightly-knit neighbourhood.
  • Ensuring that this project is accessible to all. Our wildflower growing kits make it possible for every household to participate. No matter what their of budget or outdoor space. This inclusivity allows everyone to enjoy the benefits of nature on their doorstep.

Join Our Crowdfunding Campaign

To make this vision a reality, we need your support. Our crowdfunding campaign is the lifeline that will enable us to reach our goal of raising between £2,000 and £5,000. Every contribution, no matter how small, takes us one step closer to creating greener, more vibrant urban spaces in Blackburn with Darwen.

Nature has an incredible ability to improve mental health and well-being. Reconnecting with the outdoors and nurturing life is not just good for the environment. It’s a source of joy and positivity for individuals. Our project encourages people to rediscover the simple pleasures of life and create lasting, meaningful memories.
